This year’s World Food Forum (WFF) centred around the theme, “Good Food for All, for Today and Tomorrow” gathered leaders, experts, and changemakers from all over the world! Hosted at the FAO headquarters in Rome, the event aimed to inspire action toward a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient global food system.
NOWA Network of Women in Aquaculture also made a notable presence at the WFF, with its President Christina Zantioti and Vice President Ilaria Bellomo joining the panel of speakers of the side event YE09 titled “Education for Empowering Youth into Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries”.

NOWA partnered with FEDERPESCA, the Agricultural University of Athens and DOTANK Plus to deliver a presentation titled “Ocean Literacy for an Inclusive Seafood Sector". Together, they explored the role of education and literacy as essential tools for building a more equitable and resilient aquaculture and fisheries industry, one capable of achieving successful generational turnover. Through the presentation, NOWA and its partners highlighted how fostering ocean literacy can empower communities, encourage sustainable practices, and inspire the next generation of leaders in the seafood sector.
The 2024 World Food Forum offered an invaluable platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration. For NOWA it provided enhanced visibility and an opportunity to emphasize the role of women and education in driving sustainability within the seafood sector.
