Despoina Athena-Vasileiadi

PhD researcher

Despina is an aquatic microbiology PhD researcher at the Technical University of Denmark, studying probiotic alternatives to antibiotics in rainbow trout aquaculture to combat antimicrobial resistance.

Growing up on the Mediterranean island of Rhodes, Greece, she developed a deep connection to marine environments, shaping her scientific path.

With a multidisciplinary research background in biology, animal stress welfare, and microbiology, and an international Sustainable Aquaculture Master’s degree, she applies a One Health approach to blue bioeconomy, aiming to develop sustainable, evidence-based solutions for the aquaculture industry.
